Currently, the fire escape rule means that when replacing your windows all habitable rooms on the top floor of your house must have some form of fire escape opening window. For side opening windows, these open completely 90 degrees. But the added bonus with these types of egress hinges is that they slide across when opened fully, and this allows you a sufficient gap down the side so that you can clean the outside of that window safely from the inside. So no more ladders, and a great excuse to get rid of your window cleaner and save money!
